Meet the Therapist

“Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives.”

-Bessel A. van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma

Welcome. I'm Cherry Aslarona (she/her), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 13 years of experience supporting adults throughout California.

I believe healing doesn't happen because someone gives you the right answers, it happens when you begin relating to yourself with greater awareness, flexibility, and compassion.  Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, high-achieving professionals who have spent years trying to think their way through anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, grief, trauma, or major life transitions. They're insightful, capable, and often successful in many areas of life, yet still find themselves feeling stuck. Together, we'll slow down enough to understand not only what is happening, but why your mind, body, and nervous system have learned to respond the way they do.

My approach is collaborative rather than prescriptive. While I'll share observations, offer evidence-based guidance, and gently challenge patterns that may no longer serve you, I don't believe therapy is about handing you a formula or promising quick fixes. Instead, we'll cultivate curiosity, strengthen your relationship with yourself, and develop the psychological flexibility to move toward the life you want, even when difficult emotions are present. My goal isn't simply symptom reduction; it's helping you build a life that feels more authentic, meaningful, and aligned with your values.

My work is deeply trauma-informed and integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), mindfulness, somatic psychotherapy through the Hakomi method, and IFS-informed therapy. I believe the mind and body are inseparable, and that the different parts of ourselves often develop to protect us in meaningful ways. Lasting healing comes not from fighting those parts, but from understanding them with curiosity and compassion while creating greater safety within the nervous system.

If you're looking for a therapist who values collaboration over certainty, curiosity over judgment, and lasting transformation over quick fixes, I'd be honored to walk alongside you.

Service &

Approach

Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment focused on

helping you address emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges

through honest and supportive conversations and interventions.

I work with adults (ages 18+) and currently provide sessions via tele-health,

with future plans to offer in-office visits.  At this time, Run Walk Talk ®

sessions are the only sessions available in-person.

I use various modalities tailored to your needs.

Below are the approaches I typically use in my practice,

though they are not limited to the following:

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT focuses on thoughts and emotions versus avoiding them. By focusing on mindfulness, acceptance, and aligning actions with personal values, ACT promotes psychological flexibility. This approach empowers individuals to live more meaningfully, even in the face of challenges, fostering growth and well-being.

Existential Therapy

Existential therapy explores life’s fundamental questions, such as purpose, freedom, and mortality. It helps clients find meaning in their experiences, confront uncertainty, and embrace personal responsibility. By addressing issues of existence, existential therapy fosters self-awareness, authenticity, and a deeper sense of purpose in life’s challenges and transitions.

Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)

CFT helps individuals cultivate self-compassion and understanding to reduce shame, self-criticism, and emotional struggles. By balancing emotional systems, it fosters resilience, emotional healing, and inner peace. CFT empowers individuals to treat themselves with kindness while navigating life's challenges.

Hakomi Method

The Hakomi Method is a mindfulness-based, body-centered therapy that gently explores unconscious beliefs and patterns. Through present-moment awareness and compassionate guidance, it helps clients access deep insights, process emotions, and promote healing. Hakomi fosters self-discovery, personal growth, and transformation by integrating mind, body, and spirit in a holistic way.

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a trauma-focused therapy that helps individuals process distressing memories. By using guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation, EMDR reduces the emotional impact of past experiences, promoting healing, emotional regulation, and a sense of resolution.

Run Walk Talk ® Therapy

Run Walk Talk ® sessions bring movement into the therapy session where we will either walk or jog in the outdoors.  This dynamic and collaborative way of working helps the individual notice sensations in their body that they may be cut off from otherwise, which can then help them to understand and shift their thinking and emotions.  Run Walk Talk ® Therapy is currently being offered in the Santa Clara County area.
