Meet the Therapist
“Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives.”
― Bessel A. van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma

Welcome! I'm Cherry Aslarona (she/they), a passionate licensed psychotherapist
with 12 years of experience in California.
I understand how challenging it can be to take the first steps toward therapy,
and I truly appreciate your courage in recognizing your needs and reaching out for support.

In my practice, I work with adults (ages 18+) and focus on the following areas:
-
anxiety
-
depression
-
grief & loss
-
cultural issues
-
chronic illness, particularly psychosocial oncology
-
life transitions (ex: career change, retirement, divorce, and more)
-
sports performance
-
trauma

I truly believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship, and I'm dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for you to explore your emotions and thoughts.

My compassionate, holistic, and clinical approach blends acceptance & commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy (CFT), existential therapy, somatic psychotherapy and/or body-centered psychotherapy through the Hakomi Method, and the mind-body connection.
I'm also trained in and provide eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.
For those who are interested in movement, I'm a Run Walk Talk® Practitioner, offering unique in-person sessions while we walk or jog. Starting in October 2024, I'll be diving into certification in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy to further enhance my trauma-informed care.

Service &
Approach
Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment focused on
helping you address emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges
through honest and supportive conversations and interventions.
I work with adults (ages 18+) and currently provide sessions via tele-health,
with future plans to offer in-office visits. At this time, Run Walk Talk ®
sessions are the only sessions available in-person.
I use various modalities tailored to your needs.
Below are the approaches I typically use in my practice,
though they are not limited to the following:
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT focuses on thoughts and emotions versus avoiding them. By focusing on mindfulness, acceptance, and aligning actions with personal values, ACT promotes psychological flexibility. This approach empowers individuals to live more meaningfully, even in the face of challenges, fostering growth and well-being.
Existential Therapy
Existential therapy explores life’s fundamental questions, such as purpose, freedom, and mortality. It helps clients find meaning in their experiences, confront uncertainty, and embrace personal responsibility. By addressing issues of existence, existential therapy fosters self-awareness, authenticity, and a deeper sense of purpose in life’s challenges and transitions.
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)
CFT helps individuals cultivate self-compassion and understanding to reduce shame, self-criticism, and emotional struggles. By balancing emotional systems, it fosters resilience, emotional healing, and inner peace. CFT empowers individuals to treat themselves with kindness while navigating life's challenges.
Hakomi Method
The Hakomi Method is a mindfulness-based, body-centered therapy that gently explores unconscious beliefs and patterns. Through present-moment awareness and compassionate guidance, it helps clients access deep insights, process emotions, and promote healing. Hakomi fosters self-discovery, personal growth, and transformation by integrating mind, body, and spirit in a holistic way.
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a trauma-focused therapy that helps individuals process distressing memories. By using guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation, EMDR reduces the emotional impact of past experiences, promoting healing, emotional regulation, and a sense of resolution.
Run Walk Talk ® Therapy
Run Walk Talk ® sessions bring movement into the therapy session where we will either walk or jog in the outdoors. This dynamic and collaborative way of working helps the individual notice sensations in their body that they may be cut off from otherwise, which can then help them to understand and shift their thinking and emotions. Run Walk Talk ® Therapy is currently being offered in the Santa Clara County area.
